K'mra's History

Kymra was born in a small mountain cothold in the High Reaches to parents Klostan and Lamara. She was scond-youngest of six childern - six inhibited, repressed children, in her opinion. Woolybeasts (llamas) were raised at her cothold, and Kymra loathed the beasts, to her parent's dismay. The other children were "proper," after all, why couldn't Kymra be? Her siblings taunted and teased the reluctant child, and Kymra's parents slowly begrudged the girl the trouble she caused.

Kymra finally left the cothold, striking out on her own. She spent a few years at a hold beholden to Crom, called Copper Stream. It was mainly a minehold, but Holder Haric agreed to take on the wandering teen if she helped in the kitchens.  Kymra consented, and the Holder's spouse, Rissana, instantly befriended the thirteen-Turn-old girl. Rissana took on Kymra's education, teaching her to read and write, though Kym still has trouble with those subjects. She also learned and memorized the Duty Song and her Charter rights under Rissana's instruction.

Kymra left once more, self-confident and bold. Her travels took her to Telgar Weyr, where unexpectadly, she decided to stay for 'just a little while.' A little while lengthened as Kymra made friends with the recent Candidates - Kayra, Lorren, Zoe, Sasha, Delsi, and Catiri. When nearly all of her aquantances Impressed, Kymra couldn't help but feel a little pang of jealousy. Wistful and headstrong, she gained residency and the Weyr and soon settled into the routine.

Turns later, Kymra was awoken by an insistant Kayra shaking her awake - seems Tryth (Kayra's brown lifemate) and Adrith (L'ren's bronze) had decided to be nuisances, and L'ren and Kay had decided to enlist Kym's help with their morning baths. After a candlemark of scrubbing at both bronze and brown hides, Tryth determined that he deserved more attention than Adrith, and snugly wrapped his tail about Kymra's waist. The bronze was not to be outdone, and the poor girl became the subject of a dragonic tug-of-war. When a thoroughly doused Kymra finally escaped their grasps, the riders informed her that she was wanted to Stand for Aramyth and Taimath's hardening clutch. A shocked Kymra could do nothing but agree, and she was formally introduced into Telgar Weyr Candidacy.

Informally, though -- that was another matter! Withen days, Kymra fell into the routine: namely, chores and pranks. Near the end of her Candidacy, Kymra and a group of others were allowed to visit the Sands for an egg-touching. Under Isobel and A'ea's watchful gaze, the Candidate laid fingers on her favorites:  Eight Days Of Darkness Egg, Turnabout Candlelit Egg, Vernal Phoenix Egg, and Summer Sunwheel Egg.

Hatching day arrived at long last. While the dragons hummed, Candidates hurriedly slipped into their robes, then marched onto the Sands. Kym, while shuffling scorched feet, watched her friends Impress - Tiarla and brown Chorith, Sulinka and green Tercath, Laria and green Sidereth. The last egg in the clutch, Summer Sunwheel Egg finally cracked, leaving One Jump Ahead Brown Hatchling dodging through miniture dunes. And to Kymra he dashed in search of a safe haven, proclaiming,

<<Tyranoth, I am called. And we, Kymra, are in for some crazy times.>>

Weyrlinghood was the time when Kymra -- now K'mra -- learned more than she'd ever dreamed possible of dragons and her own lifemate, Tyranoth. The bonds of Candidacy grew tighter day by day as weyrlings shared the glories of their dragons: first kill, first flight, betweening. But graduation day arrived all too soon, and K'mra was awarded the knot of a Telgar Weyr Wingrider. Several sevendays passed before one fateful morning when Kym fell asleep in the caverns, sprawled on a rickety chair. A well-placed kick from Skyskimmer's Wingleader, A'ea, and the chair collapsed. K'mra was given a sturdier chair - one at the Skyskimmer table. A chair with a brown bit on it, she's certain, and a badge to match.

The Turns went by, and Thread returned.  When Telgar rose to meet their first Fall, both K'mra and Tyranoth were injured as a clump of Thread was blown into their side; Tyranoth was lucky to escape with no damage to his wings and Kym was likewise lucky that they winked between before the Thread could reach any vital organs.  After a long recovery, the brownrider and her lifemate took a great deal more care during Threadfall and earned a healthy fear of it.

Everyone heard about the disaster that happened in Igen -- ill-prepared and with poor, hard-handed leadership, the Weyr lost nearly half of its riders.  When Fontaine reported the tragedy that Yaluta, Igen's Weyrwoman, had tried to hide to the Telgar Weyrleaders, a council was immediately convened.  Gamma was asked to take control of Igen and displace Yaluta.  Yaluta had no choice but to give in, and she and her supporters fled to Fort, where one of Gamma's long-time foes gave them shelter.  K'mra was one of the riders asked to join Gamma and help rebuild the Weyr's population.  The request came with an offer of a new knot, to Kym's surprise: a Wingleader's knot.  She accepted and accompanied Gamma to Igen.  She didn't expect it to be easy to lead a wing, and her feelings proved correct:  many riders begrudged the Telgarian leadership of an Igen wing, complaining that outsiders had control.  It took time to gain the support of her riders, but K'mra met the challenge and the Igenite riders gradually came to respect their Wingleader.

Tyranoth had always fulfilled his duties when there were clutches upon the Sands, and it was no different when Spectreth was caught by Kayth in her first flight at Igen.  One of the young men Tyranoth sniffed at and deemed worthy to Stand was a little different, however; a few Turns later, K'mra found herself pregnant by R'il, the miner Tyranoth had taken exception to and whom she had later promoted to her Wingsecond, and the couple decided to weyrmate.  But that didn't mean that things between them were perfect -- by no means!  After a flight, a seduction, and a fight, R'il was the father-to-be of not one child, but four.  K'mra, well into her pregnancy and brimming with all sorts of hormones, was not the least bit happy.  The pair was reconciled, eventually, and the babies were born:  Terym, the firstborn and K'mra's child; Rishara, product of I'shra's flight; Rilen, resulting from the time when a very drunk Yelena seduced a very drunk R'il; and Azril, who's conception happened after Kym and R'il fought and he subsequently got drunk with A'zri.  In the end, all of the children but Rishara ended up living with their father and his weyrmate, and K'mra eventually got used to the idea of raising three children at once with the help of several nannies.

But that wasn't the end of the kids.  On no.  K'mra got pregnant once more, and despite being firmly convinced that she'd have a girl (just like the previous time, that wishing didn't help any), ended up with a boy:  Kyril.  So it's a mostly happy family, albeit big, and between her Windscorcher Wing and the terrors that pass for children, K'mra's quite busy.
