Puo's Place

Thick locks of sun-bleached oak sweep neatly over his angular countenance, cropped close against the high forehead, a few trailing roguishly above striking eyes of greying azure. A dash of freckling accents aristocratic nose that's slightly crooked from a prior break, trailing off unto nothingness about lips of too-pale iced rose, whispered mouth a dramatic contrast to bronzed skin, all too often found in a frown rather than the more appealing smile. Tall, his lanky frame fills out nicely, although a few reminders of a gangly adolescence still remain in occasional moments of clumsiness.

History

Puokano hails from Southern Boll, youngest son of Lord and Lady: Punlan and Sokani. The boy grew up pampered and spoiled -- he /knows/ his Blood lineage -- and, unsurprisingly, developed a rather snobby attitude. He was -- and is -- a brat, taking after his haughty mother. Puokano was fostered off to Ista Hold at ten Turns -- a sort of Turnday present, in trade for one of Lord Ista's sons. The fostering hardly helped Puokano's disposition, although he learned valuable skills associated with running a Hold.

When he returned six years later, Punlan was both glad to see his son once more and disappointed to find him little changed. Rather than immediately put Puokano into the position of Assistant Steward as was expected, Punlan left the youth in limbo, hoping he would mature. He didn't. At a loss, Punlan found out that a couple of respected weavers at the nearby Crafthall were sending their daughter, Ramaki, to Starmount Weyr. And so Punlan quickly set it up so that Puokano, too, could be fostered to Starmount under Ramaki's Masterweaver aunt. And with a brief packing job and plenty of complaints on Puokano's part about climate, people, atmosphere-- whatever he could find fault with -- he was whisked away from Boll.

Puokano detested the Weyr, stuck with his pre-formed opinions; little welcome was given upon his arrival, and the haughty boy managed to alienate his fostermum within moments after meeting her. The trend continued as Puo had various run-ins with Weyr riders and residents. Eventually, he sent a letter off to his father requesting -- pleading -- for him to reconsider his decision and at least move him to a different place. A warm place. Any place. His request was denied. So Puokano remained at the Weyr, evading chores and and antagonizing nearly everyone he came across. A proddy greenrider, K'iss, eventually put a well-placed punch into Puo's face, and succeeded in knocking a bit of sense into him (as well as causing a bloody nose), with the help of a stern talking-to by Tamial. Just a little bit of sense, mind -- although the lordling became careful not to be /too/ rude, his attitude left much to be desired.

But there came a day -- a cold, snowy day, the sort that Puokano especially detested -- that everyone within the living caverns was directed outside by C'drel on Matrith's whim; the occupants were to be looked at for Candidate material. Accompanying his fostersister reluctantly, who had already been asked to Stand, Puo shivered and complained until the bronze's attention alighted upon the lordling. With a firm grasp around Puokano's midsection, Matrith used his tail to bury the poor Bollian in a snow drift, refusing to let him go until he had extracted a promise that Puo would Stand as a Candidate for the current double-clutch. At a loss, he agreed, and was reminded that he couldn't back out; they had his word, and surely his father Punlan would be disappointed if his son was dishonorable.

Candidacy wasn't something Puokano desired, and several times he was berated for skipping chores, just like he'd done as a resident. No one wanted to be around him, including his fellow Candidates, and the prior acquisition of bronze Thing proved to be little company. In short, he was miserable. Even worse was to come, when the Candidates were auctioned off and Puokano brought in one of the loftiest prices; everyone wanted the opportunity to have him as a slave for a sevenday, including a besotten Candidate, Aewen, who's visiting brother won the poor lordling for his sister.

Eventually the long-awaited day for most Candidates, excluding Puokano, arrived. Pre-dawn brought the hatching of Krysanth and Khavrineth's clutches, and Puo reluctantly took his place amongst the others in his weaver-made robe, clutching his fostersister's hand. Alternately, he criticized the various dragons and pleaded with Ramaki to flee the Sands, uneasy from the various dragonets who approached--Impression was not on his list of things to do. Eventually, Obsidian Blade Bronze heard the lordling, after mauling a boy who managed to get in his way, and headed over towards the pair. Puokano suddenly found himself proclaimed O'kano; the same voice proclaimed himself Jharzeth, and Puo found himself a weyrling, faced with the challenges of major adjustments in his prejudices, opinions, and way of life.

The pair did graduate, although it was doubted by many that it would ever happen.  And along the way, O'kano managed to get into plenty of trouble; the only thing he ever did on his own violation was cleaning up after both Jharzeth and himself, for Puo was fasticiously clean.  After graduation, O'kano and Jharzeth joined the Spiral Winds wing under J'kan for a short time before taking up the position of assistant weyrlingmaster -- according to one rumor, the only reason he accepted it was out of the desire to make the new weyrlings to suffer just as much as he did.

Even Puo can't hate everyone, no matter how much he tried.  Somehow, the bronzerider formed a tentative friendship with Deinha, and although he fluxuated between friendliness and nastiness, the goldrider was, quite possibly, the only person that O'kano felt somewhat comfortable around at the Weyr.  So maybe it wasn't quite so surprising when, after the flight of Tamial's gold Khavrineth, the two ended up in Puo's weyr.  Some sort of off-and-on relationship formed, then abruptly fizzled when Deinha's own Sebayeth rose and Jharzeth wasn't the one who caught.  After nearly a month of rudeness on Puo's part, the two made up briefly before the next surprise came:  Deinha was pregnant, but didn't know who's child it was.  To say the least, O'kano wasn't happy.  Alternating between not wanting the baby to be his and not wanting it to be R'ken's (Nasmyth had won the flight), Puo eventually just avoided the goldrider as much as possible, which only fostered a healthy dose of jealousy when Dei ended up spending more time with R'ken than him.  But babies have to be born, and this one was, named Ruona and appropriately called Rue.  And even though Puo really didn't want to like the little girl, it proved fairly tough not to.

Meanwhile, O'kano's relationship with T'ela underwent several ups and downs.  Puo received both a punch and a kiss from the brownrider, but the two eventually settled into a rather unstable friendship.  Puo did his best to ignore the fact that T'ela liked him; what he didn't want to confront, he avoided.  It wasn't exactly ignored, however, when a not-sober Puo ended up literally tumbling into a bed with a not-sober Tae.  And that wasn't exactly something that Deinha liked much, either.

Jharzeth

Volcanic glass, chipped with precision, melds over the carved planes of his chiseled form while brisk angularity edges each curve. Nowhere is this sharpness so apparent as in the head he holds with silent, near-menacing pride, where his muzzle narrows so exquisitely that the sheen of bronzed metallicy awards him the facade of a blade honed to perfection. Translucent green enamel and gold dust overlay a core of darkness like the obsidian that gives him his shape; it lends him a hazy half-presence, not so much shadow as mirage.

Logs

*Puokano's only been at Starmount for a few days, and he's already found tons to complain about.  And so complain he does, ranting at anyone who'll enter the living caverns.  In the process he manages to make several enemies and hear several voices...er, dragons.  Note: this is his first IC appearance!

*Newly arrived at Starmount Weyr, Puokano hangs out in the living caverns and manages to insult nearly everyone there, which provokes interesting results.

*Puo gets Searched!  In a most unorthodox manner, too - but how else would C'drel and Matrith get him to accept?

*Puokano is forced to attend an egg touching, and ends up in a verbal fight with the Junior Weyrwoman.

*Puo at an auction -- getting bidded on.  The horrors!

*Puokano is Aewen's slave, and although he tried to avoid her, he ended up finding her on a ledge.

*The hatching arrives in the early hours the day after it was expected, much to Pouk's dismay.  From Khavrineth and Matrith's clutch come the following PC pairs:  G'rett and blue Gurgith, Myca and green Eilanth, Shannon and blue Faravoth, and O'kano and bronze Jharzeth.  From Krysanth and Anceth's clutch we welcome the following:  Cor and brown Khanueth, Kaeralla and green Amentith, and Deinha and gold Sebayeth.  Aftermath included.

*Puo has a late night chat with Deinha in the weyrling barracks when Jharzeth develops an itch or four.

*Surprise, surprise.  Puo has a sincere (!) talk with Tamial.

*Pouk's always been a pretty good swimmer, and as the dragon hot springs are always heated, it's no wonder he spends so much time there.  But when Deinha turns up and asks for lessons, he's forced to oblige.

*The weyrling dragons kill their first beasties while their lifemates turn pale and pasty.  O'kano manages to get in trouble again, too.

*O'kano, Myca, and Deinha have a heated argument.

*Deinha ends up apologizing to Puo the next morning -- and he apologizes back?

*Part of being a weyrling is learning about dragon flights.  O'kano, being the holdbred brat that he is, doesn't want to listen to the lecture, but it's beyond his control.  But that doesn't mean he has to like it.

*Myca's Eilanth rises and O'kano has a hard time escaping:  he doesn't make it.  This is the first flight Jharzeth competes in, and the results leave Puo in shock -- a maybe even traumatized.

*When Jharzeth is late to Khavrineth's flight and things don't go the way O'kano and Jharzeth planned, they flee to an Azov beach...only to find Deinha and her gold there, hiding away from the Weyr due to Sebayeth's impending proddiness.  And there, Dei offers to help Puo out with his "problem," to his surprise, and things get...interesting. *Log Incomplete*

*Puo certainly wasn't pleased after Deinha's Sebayeth rose and a dragon other than Jharzeth caught, and his displeasure translated into four sevendays of alternating avoidance of the goldrider and extreme nastiness.  But when O'kano goes too far, Dei gets fed up and confronts him.

*Dei hasn't been feeling well, and goes to chat with Tamial. *Log Incomplete*

*Uh oh. Deinha has news (translation:  scary news that he probably won't enjoy) for Puo that requires privacy.

*T'ela and O'kano aren't known to get along.  Things escalate, though, when she says thing about vtols in his pants.  But the rumors don't stop there!  A few days later, in the Living Caverns, it comes up again.

*S'ara and Alondhra have a great time mercilessly teasing and pestering Puo in the caverns.  So when he flees, they follow - and Jharzeth takes a liking to Alondhra, despite (or maybe because of) his rider's dislike.

*Puo's cultivating a healthy dislike of Starmount's newest Harper, Niniane, especially after an occurance in the Living Caverns.

*Starmount's new Harper and O'kano don't have a good record.  For that matter, neither does T'ela and O'kano.  So things are bound to get heated when the three of them end up in the Galleries together.

*Circumstances find T'ela, O'kano, and Deinha in the Galleries and on the Sands not too long after the interesting fight just days before, each with varying reactions.

*When Puo comes down too hard on the newly Impressed weyrlings, T'ela's there to drag him off to the side and give him a tongue-lashing.  The confrontation, though, has interesting results.

*Is there a possibility that Niniane and O'kano could ever be not-enemies?  It's hardly conceivable, but there's hope:  en-route to the caverns, Puo receives an apology.

*Who would've thought that O'kano could ever be friendly enough to go share a bottle of wine with someone, especially when alcohol's relegated into the category of "only for after flights?"  It happens, though, and Puo's drinking partner turns out to be T'ela.

*What happens when Puo's least favorite person finds him and demands a chat about Puo's least favorite subject?  The result is interesting, at least.  And, almost immediately afterwards -- Puo didn't have time to escape -- the least favorite subject becomes a reality as Deinha goes into labor.  *log incomplete*

*Avoidance.  That's Puo's favorite method of not awknowledging things he doesn't want to.  Word /does/ get out, though, that Deinha had a kid -- it's a little hard to keep quiet.  Somehow, Puo ends up talking to T'ela about it.

*Down in Azov, V'don's Fayanth just rose; O'kano and Jharzeth were visiting, and the bronze lost.  So when Puo went back to Starmount, he decided to get drunk, following the classic way to get rid of problems after flights.  But when he came back down to find more alcohol, T'ela was there -- and things got interesting.  But no more interesting than things the next day.

*O'kano manages to run into the top two people on his people-to-avoid list: T'ela, whom he's still not talking to due to prior occurances, and Kaeralla, who's dragon Jharzeth caught in her flight a sevenday before.

*After nearly a month of avoiding Deinha, O'kano runs into her as he heads up to his weyr.  He knew she wouldn't be happy about what happened with T'ela -- and she isn't.  *log incomplete*

I recently found a picture that I thought really looked like how I imagined Puo.  Picture
