Yari's Yurt

Ssh!  He's really a Mongolian who time-travelled and landed on Pern!

Er.  I lied.

T'yari's Background

Tahayari hails from Igen Hold, the fifth child of the Lord's brood. Resembling his father, the boy garnered the same blond-brown hair and bronzed skin from their Blood relationship -- but that's where the similarities halted. The Lord was outspoken and boisterious, if somewhat promiscious, while his fifth son tended to be quiet and shy. Tahayari was treated just like any other child in the Hold, attending Harper lessons, peeling tubers, and scraping his knees.  And although both parents suggested apprenticeship to one craft or another to the timid Tahayari, he expressed little interest.  It didn't help any that Yari succeeded in embarrassing his parents to no end; when the boy crawled under the table at his first formal Gather dinner and bawled in fright until his nanny came to cart him off to the nursery, his parents realized to what extent Tahayari's shyness exceeded.  The boy was terrified of crowds and unknown people and had few friends.  When one of them, Quirin, began to show Yari the wilder aspects of life -- knive-throwing, liquor, girls -- Lord Tiren and Lady Jiandres  promptly sent him packing after lining his father's pockets with a few marks.  Although the couple didn't want their son to be so withdrawn, they didn't want him to come out of his shell because of corruption induced by Quirin.  But finally, after seventeen Turns, the exasperated Lord sent the teen into the world -- Ista Weyr, specifically -- in the hopes that he'd shape up and get over what his father apparently thought were personality problems.

Tahayari never really got over those problems. Most of his time was spent skulking around the lower caverns in an effort to stay out of everyone's eyesight; the few times he could be spotted were at meals or when someone managed to drag him out of hiding. Those people were usually Shaioni, his half-sister, or Quirin, whom Yari rediscovered as the Weyr's vintner.  Rarely, he'd emerge at times other than the aforementioned. One such time was a sunny winter afternoon; Tahayari was enjoying the warmth, a rarity in this season of exceptional cold, out in the Bowl. Kassandra's Didarath decided the frightened holderboy was right where he wanted to be, and proceeded to terrify Yari while poking at the hem of his tunic. And, eventually, the blue's rider figure out just what Didarath wanted: for Yari to Stand for the hardening clutches. Now, Yari had no desire to do so, but decided the dragon would probably eat him if he refused. So accept he did, and soon Tahayari sported the knot of a Candidate at Ista Weyr, however reluctantly.

Although he tried to maintain his distance from the other Candidates, Tahayari did manage to make several friends despite his efforts. So when the Hatching day came, as it always did, Yari chose to hide behind Goran while several others -- Catriona, Margereete, Shaioni, and Quirin -- stood nearby and provided some sort of human shield for the anxious Igenite. But it didn't do much good, for not far into the Hatching, a small, apple-green dragonet found him and he forgot his fear of dragons as Nediath claimed him as her own and called him by a new name: T'yari. And while he hasn't lost his trademark shyness or lost his ever-present blush, Yari's slowly adjusting to the life as a weyrling and life with Nediath.

Nediath

Pure, silken down blossoms whitely over the crown of delicately appointed headknobs, the cottony softness beset by wisps of palest rose that stand in gentle contrast to the prevailing, varying hues of green that caress this beauty's hide as sunlight through new leaves might sprinkle the forest floor. The softness of clover darkens the smooth line of her slender belly, sparkling here and there with tiny blooms of dandelion, themselves flickering with the richness of butterfly-orange. A shimmering veil of apple brightness runs down the long, slim outline of her sinuous spine, the sweet crispness fresh and invigorating where it meets with sprays of tender brown that spread twig-like fingers over the flat spade of her prettily crafted tail. Tart crabapple flirts with sharply curved talons, a precise match for the canvas of fragile wingsails delineated with spinnerwebs of autumnal bronze, tracing the network of veins that embrace the waning, moonlit green of her wingbones.

Logs!

*Tahayari arrives at the Weyr!
*Tahayari accidently lets it slip just who Shaioni's father is one day in the caverns.  Oops.
*Quirin arrives at the Weyr, and immediately takes up the task of corrupting Tahayari once more.
*It's just another evening at Ista, during which Tahayari -- as usual -- gets embarrassed about various things.
*Gasp! Didarath Searches Tahayari?  Surely not!
*Candidates are loose in the barracks!  Yari gets a look at weyrlife, too, and blushes a lot.
*Those eggs had to hatch sometime.
*It's the first days of weyrlinghood, and between feedings, oilings, and chores, weyrlings get their hair chopped off.
*T'yari gets promoted!
*T'yari finds Q'rin on a beach one night, and the bluerider poses embarrassing questions, among other things.
*Nediath's proddy.  So is T'yari.
*Up, up, and away!  Nediath flies for the first time.  Aftermath included.
*Some time later, T'yari encounters both Catriona and G'nar -- both who do their best to make him blush through rather explicit language.  Poor Yari.
*Not long after, Catriona carries through with her threat to invade Yari's weyr and, in the process, pesters him with lots of the questions he doesn't want to answer.
*T'yari gets accosted in the caverns by a new person who chatters his ear off and another who accuses all greenriders (Yari included) of being a flirt.  The result?  One very, very nervous, blushing, fidgeting greenrider.
*A small snippet short log in which Nediath deposits Yari in the Bowl, who then proceeds to get hit-on by G'nar and ends up rather annoyed.
*Catriona, who's proddy, pesters T'yari.
*T'yari gets proddy again and gangs up with Catriona to demand kisses from people.
*Catti finds T'yari and, as an apology for getting mad at him, gives him a present -- and weasels out a promise to teach her how to dance.
*Reluctantly, T'yari ends up in the middle of a truth or dare session where even his own dragon works against him to make him spill all those yummy secrets he'd prefer not to talk about.
*Catriona cashes in her dancing lessons and shows up on T'yari's ledge.  And things don't exactly go as planned.
*T'yari's weyr has been painted pink, a fact that causes much woe.
*Tyari takes Catriona up on her offer to let him live in her weyr -- temporarily! -- until his own is repainted to a color that isn't so offensive.  And then she tricks him into getting semi-drunk.  Poor Yari.
